Where to begin?
Slate reports that Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former head of the International Monetary Fund, and before that the front-runner to become the president of France, “has been detained for questioning by French police about his possible involvement in an alleged prostitution ring. […] Strauss-Kahn’s defense? He didn’t know the women were prostitutes.”
Where oh where to begin? Probably with his brilliant lawyer:
“Apparently, Strauss-Kahn frequented orgies at which the prostitutes were present in Paris and D.C. […]. One of his lawyers told the media that the former French presidential front-runner had no way of knowing the women at said orgies were hired.
“He could easily not have known, because as you can imagine, at these kinds of parties you’re not always dressed, and I challenge you to distinguish a naked prostitute from any other naked woman.”
Just so, anonymous lawyer-person!
“I just thought she was very… you know… giving. Um…they. They were very giving. And fit. Very fit!”
But also, why are French police investigating? I thought prostitution was legal in France, or at least “not illegal”…?
